Human body elements

We are all made of Stardust

One of the first things about energy healing that blew my mind was understanding that we are all made up of energy. Like, every part of us, the smallest cell, is just… energy. What we think of as solid matter, is in fact energy. I still can’t quite get my head around it (full disclosure – GCSE Science was my least favourite subject at school).

Add in the fact that beyond our bodies being made up of energy, we are also wholly connected to the universe – in fact, we are part of the universe. Our bodies are made up of stardust.

“Every atom in your body came from a star that exploded. And, the atoms in your left hand probably came from a different star than your right hand. It really is the most poetic thing I know about physics: You are all stardust.” (Lawrence M Krauss)

Isn’t that mad and beautiful and mind blowing? We are energetic beings and created from “stardust” because the elements in our bodies were forged in the cores of stars.

Here’s how it works: stars create heavier elements, such as carbon, oxygen, and nitrogen, through nuclear fusion. When massive stars reach the end of their life cycles, they explode in supernovae (pronounced super-no-vee), scattering these elements across the universe. Over billions of years, these materials clumped together to form new stars, planets, and life-form…. and eventually… you and me.

The human body is composed primarily of elements like hydrogen, oxygen, carbon, and nitrogen—many of which were formed during the Big Bang (hydrogen) or inside stars. So, quite literally, the atoms that make up your body were once part of ancient stars, connecting us to the cosmos in a profound and awe-inspiring way.

The connection between being made of stardust and energy healing, like reiki, lies in the idea that we, as humans, are deeply connected to the universe through energy. If the elements in our bodies come from stars, then the energy that shaped the cosmos flows through us too. Reiki and other forms of energy healing tap into this universal energy, often referred to as “life force energy,” to promote balance and well-being. We are all connected to the universe because we are the universe.

And that’s just the physics side of it. There is also a biological connection between energy healing (using the chakras) and our own bodies, which I talk about in this post about fascia.

I will leave you with this quote from the forever-wise, Eckhart Tolle, “You are the Universe, expressing itself as a human for a little while.”
